Rose ring

About this design:

My local bead shop had a great Black Friday sale. I was lucky enough to find a strand of the silvery gray roses.

Gorgeous! What beauty at a bargain filled Black Friday sale. I have admired and dreamed of a silver a silver rose necklace, bracelet, and earrings since my fist trip into Mexico 40 years ago. They are real silver, tarnish, and cost an arm and a leg for someone making less than $10,000 a year making a house payment, a car payment and a college loan payment.

This is beautiful Bev!! I would love to make some rings…I ‘ve seen a few tutorials on it. Do you have to have a ring mandrel?

  4. BevB
    BevB says:

Thank you, ladies! Jane – I used a ring mandrel, especially for 16 ga. You can use any thing round…like a marker. Take one of your rings, and find something that it fits on…use that as your ring size guide. Also you want your wire smooth with no kinks in it. I was taught to stroke the wire you are working with. It warms it up and makes it easier to work with. I was lucky; this worked on my first try. :)

This is so sweet! The rose is beautiful. How great to find a strand of these on sale. Thanks for sharing your tips on making rings. I especially like the one about warming up the wire–who would have known? I can’t wait to see more of these flowers pop up in your future postings!

I love your rose ring. Just beautiful. 16 Ga wire wrapping… sounds hard to do.

Thanks, CC and Beady! This was the only strand of roses. I was shopping with Kitty, and told her that I would share them with her. She shares with me too. This is the first ring I made with the wire band. And I had recently purchased the 16 gauge wire. It is harder to work with…I just took my time with it. I haven’t decided what I will do with my remaining roses. There are several possibilities brewing. When it feels right, I will create something.

  12. Moogie
    Moogie says:

Your ring came out great Bev! I thought the rose was silver with a special coloring. Using 16g was very ambitious! I also love making wire rings. It takes practice & patience to make them neat. Messy wraps are easier! I like using my stainless ring mandrel to shape & whack it with my leather hammer to harden.

  13. BevB
    BevB says:

Thanks, Kim and Moogie! Moogie – I wore the ring the whole day, and even slept with it on (I usually take my rings off be I go to bed in case my fingers get swollen). The next day the ring was fine; it kept it’s shape. If I use a 20 ga, I’ll probably hammer it to harden it. It will have a hammered tone look to it.
