Emerald Ring

About this design:

This is my 3rd attempt to post it so just one picture here. My method for a wire wrapped setting of a gemstone. As you can see it seems like Spring has already arrived here.

Components:

20 guage and 24 guage wire. Faceted emerald. Synthetic opals. Crystal cubes.

Wow!! Extra cool K.R. So, you do a prong like setting? I have no idea how something like that is done. It’s really beautiful!

Ditto Jane–This is really great! The prong setting is amazing, and I love the wrapped band. You are a woman of many talents! It is so nice that you were able to sit outside and enjoy the day. I believe colder weather will be heading in soon.

K, just wanted to let you know that you can delete the two previous postings that didn’t post correctly by going to the left of the screen, hitting ‘My Designs’, and under where the photo would post, hit delete post. Wasn’t sure if you knew that. I hate when the pictures don’t post!

Thanks all. Crystal, I will try that. I explained how it’s done on the first attempt to upload and then thought maybe I was trying to upload too much. But it’s very easy. 6 20 guage lengths of wire, long enough to encircle your finger and extend far enough to enclose the stone. I choose to wrap the wires into a solid band but you probably don’t have to. Wrap the wires at the base of the setting a few times and then spread out the prongs to the desired width. Now you basket weave around the prongs, encircling each one as you go for a bit, place the stone into the setting and press down the prongs. You’ll probably have to make a few adjustments. In this case I put some extra stuff at the sides and base, but you wouldn’t have to. I’ve never been able to do some of the settings I see on YouTube, like channeling, although I keep trying. But as you all know, I can’t follow instructions. Maybe you can see the basket weave in the last photo if you enlarge it.

Very cool! It looks really difficult to make. I think it’s great that you view instructions as mere suggestions and do your own thing. Your ring is beautiful!

It’s getting really NOISY outside. What have I done, LOL. The birds are coming from everywhere and I guess this will be a new line item expense in my budget because they have made me feel happy. Here’s one of my squirrels coming for the cookies. Hope you can see him.

Love your squirrel. We feed the squirrels also (well actually the birds – but I cant keep the squirrels out of the feeder. My daughter has a chippie who comes to her for food and water. She gives him warm water. So cold today. Started out at -10 degrees but the sun was shining.
