Midnight Ruminations

About this design:

So much suffering in the world, and when in touches us personally—it can be hard. And, sometimes we face difficulties that we can't get out of our heads. So often, nighttime sleep suffers as we try to work out solutions. This can be the case with me. When I can’t find a resolution, I remind myself that sometimes things are just what they are. So instead of losing sleep due to excessive concern about things that may be out of my control, I try to make the time productive & work out jewelry designs to preoccupy my mind until I doze off. Here is the result of one of those sleepless nights. A little of this & that in a limited color palette. As I look at the completed necklace, interestingly, it does kinda reflect how I was feeling at the time. Way to serious…I think I need to go do something fun!

Czech black/blue twisted ovals/druks & lt. blue druks (LB), Larvikite rondelles, Labradorite (LB), Blue Agate (LB), Lava Rock (LB), Blue ceramic coins, various shapes black glass, SP faceted beads & findings

You’ve created a beautiful piece. Our moods get reflected in what we create. Blue or not, I love the colors. I don’t sleep so well either and I have trouble getting motivated to create things very often. But I do try to prepare for the future as best I can, and that helps because you don’t feel quite as vulnerable if you can do that. My job as I see it is to protect these dorks with every resource I have and all my energy. And now I seem to be obsessing about the wildlife’s well being as well. I focus on that mostly.

Beautiful necklace from a late night plan! I’m really beginning to think that we we get older we get the more we have problems getting to sleep. Then we drift off for naps because of the difficulty getting to sleep. When I can’t fall asleep I end up reminiscing about the good things growing up.

Crystal…I believe creative people are blessed because we have a great way of dealing with stress. Out of our inner turmoil can we can produce something beautiful. Look at Van Gogh…he was my first artistic hero when I was young. I’m sorry you are having some tough times. Yes, I ‘ve said it before and I ‘ll say it again. I’m glad I will be out of here soon enough. Also I love your necklace…very well put together…as all your pieces are.

Crystal, your necklace is beautiful. As I was reading through your lamentable pros, I thought of that song “Blue on Blue” by Bobbie Vinton. Remember that song? Anyway, lamenting helps us work through our problems, our grief, and certainly our worries. Our faith helps us stay grounded and gives comfort-its our constant, and hope. Working with our hands is an age old skill and gift-it gives us purpose and the ability to give to others. It give us time to think, not always to solve the worlds problems, but to create what might not have been there in happiness! Does that make sense? You certainly created a gorgeous necklace. I love it!

This necklace moody or not is absolutely gorgeous !! I agree with the ladies above that I too believe we work through our feelings within our art and there have been so many times I have been grateful for that ….we are truly blessed to have such an outlet …. I always have hand trouble sleeping …I have always had anxiety and have been a worrier ….recently I found the Olly sleep gummies and now , most nights I actually sleep at night …I don’t normally share opinions of products but if it helps any of you like it did me its worth the mention

Beautiful necklace Crystal. I love the colors and design. The matte lava rocks really add distinction. Just gorgeous.
Olly sleep gummies sound like a good idea.
Robin – Blue on Blue – hadn’t thought of that song in a long time.

Oh my goodness, what wonderful encouragement this morning! The world is in such a funky place right now, that sometimes it can wear on us individually–our lifestyles have changed so much. Creating for me is the best way to remedy any ‘blue’ day, as working with my hands helps alleviate & melt away any concerns floating around in my mind. And to add to Robin’s words, we can create & bring into existence by inspiration something new through an art form we love so much–and that always brings happiness & satisfaction.
*Yes, Robin, I do remember that song!
*Kimberly, I checked out the Olly’s & put a jar in my VitaCost cart–Thanks so much–hope they help on those sleepless nights!
*I sincerely thank everyone for your heartfelt expressions on this post. Today, I will be creating with color :)

Your necklace is so beautiful Crystal. I love the colors and the design is outstanding. You have such a fine eye for subtle details. I especially like how each stand is slightly different but works well in the overall design. Making jewelry has helped me so much the last few years. And this site with all the positive people is a nice haven. I lay awake a lot thinking of possible designs. It’s a way to take my mind off our current realities. I’m going to check out the gummies and listen to Blue on Blue.

Another beautiful work of art! The black beads really highlight the blues. Sorry about your sleep issues- those gummies sound like a great thing to try. I think the old world as we knew it is really changing- time to use our creativity & ability to create beauty out of “scraps” (ie stash!) to shape the future!!

    Thank You Kye & Phoenix!
*Kye, I agree that taking our minds off the current realities can readily be accomplished by creating & thinking about new designs & new things to try. Jane has me thinking about the torch again. Now I need a little courage to fire it up!
*Phoenix, this type of necklace is a perfect way to use up the ‘stash’–and I’ve been trying to come up with ways to make a dent in it. It has a mind of it’s own and grows as fast as weeds!

Crystal, I love this necklace! I was away at work and couldn’t access LB so I decided I still needed to tell you how beautiful it is, once I got back home! This is beautiful. Just beautiful. I have learned to look for the beauty where I can find it. This story does have a Happy Ending! And, your necklace is proof. In the midst of the dark you have created beauty. That gives me hope. Proof is here! I love Larvikite. Do you know that the International Terminal at the Atlanta airport has floors and walls and lentils of this beautiful stone?!?!?!?!?! I always remind myself to look for it when I come home from away! That dark grey stone that shines and has such a pretty chaoyance, reminds me of the verse, …”And the light shined in the darkness and the darkness couldn’t overcome it….” You have put together a beautiful piece. Joy in the darkness. I love it!

Jogi, I appreciate that you noticed the chatoyant aspect of the Larvikite (& also the Labradorite). That was one reason I chose those beads in this design. I love the bands of reflected light they throw off–they are some of my favorite stones to work with. Thanks for taking the time to comment even though you’ve had a busy schedule. Our Savior does give us hope, peace & joy despite the ‘darkness’ around us–what better strength could we have to overcome?

Kimbery, I finally received the Olly’s & tried one last night–it worked! Thank you so much! :)
