Rubber NeckerEarrings

About this design:

We're out in the Oasis again today. Yesterday it was cold so I was trying to catch up with the dishes when I became aware of something in the window. It was a hummingbird looking in to see what I was doing. Later it happened again in the dining room. These guys are rubber neckers! They are used to me being outside near their feeders so I guess they feel comfortable checking out what I am doing. Made these earrings for non pierced ears while I was outside. I love my rubber neckers so much. Maybe they know that.

Components:

Ear clips. Teardrop and bicone crystals. 3 loop end bars. Head pins

Hmmmm. All I can upload is this one photo. So the story…. I’ll try putting it here. Yesterday it was cold so I was trying to get caught up on the dishes when I became aware of something in the window. It was a hummingbird checking me out. Later it happened again in the dining room. These guys are rubber neckers! Out in the Oasis today I made these simple earrings for non pierced ears. The hummingbirds are used to me being out here near their feeders so I guess they feel comfortable looking in the windows. I love my rubber neckers.

K, what a darling story and how special you must feel to be the object of those sweet little birds connection with humans. What a blessing! The earring are beautiful!

Nice that you can do beadwork outside. It is still too cold here in Salem, Oregon. Nice earrings. I don’t have pierced ears so I seldom wear earrings. It kind of hurts to wear clips or screwbacks. I have an idea I might try. Some drops of clove bud oil on my earlobes. It took away all the pain when I had a toothache and put the oil on my gums. I have had a hummingbird come right up to me, face to face, hover and “talk” to me. And Verlyn, my mate, witnessed it. We were both amazed. Not sure what the bird was saying, but it probably had to do with plants.

Your earrings are beautiful, K! My Kitty doesn’t have pierced ears. She doesn’t wear clip-ons too often because they hurt her ears too. Melody – maybe the hummingbird was thanking you for your plants.

Hummingbirds are inquisitive birds for sure! When I put fresh nectar in their feeders, I always have one at my window hovering while looking in and chattering. Your earrings are beautiful!

K, thanks for the smile this morning! You always have a way of viewing things with a little twist. Those little guys really are ‘rubberneckers’! We can’t go outside without our tiny tree sentinel coming down to check out what’s going on. A few times, like Melody said, they will come right up to us. I’ve seen pictures on the internet of them actually stopping to perch on people’s arms. Ours is usually fussing, but we don’t mind. We tell him this is our space too, and usually he settles down. Very pretty earrings. I like the way you used the 3-loop bars to create the cascading beads–fantastic idea. Keep enjoying your adopted ‘family’ out in your Oasis! :)

Thanks guys. For those of you who say clip earrings are painful you are so right. But they do make some silicon things that protect your ears from some of the pain. They don’t work on every style. Melody, I love your hummingbird story, and that clove oil treatment sounds extreme, LOL. I have a torn earlobe. Usually I put a piece of flesh colored bandage over it and poke the ear wire through and that works, but it’s a little trouble and I like to have some clips around for when I am just too lazy for all that. Plus I like old vintage earrings and they are all clips, so I gotta endure the pain. Crystal, that would be so cool to have a hummingbird perch on your arm, but maybe better if they don’t. I feed the squirrels too but I don’t try to get them to take anything from my hand. It’s best for them if they don’t trust humans too much.

Never heard of hummingbirds described as rubberneckers. So funny. So glad to hear you can make jewelry in your Oasis.
Your earrings are beautiful. Like little chandeliers.

Funny how trusting animals can be.
