About this design:

I'm seeing a lot of little lavender wild flowers and the shoots of my bulbs *finally* starting to pop up in my yard which inspired the lavender pallette. The asymmetrical style has some mixed reviews from my family but it must be my Gemini coming out in me.

Rainbow fluorite coin and teardrops, faceted glass rectangles, ivory rice pearls, silver plated oval and round connectors from LB, mini silver plated paperclip chain from LB, silver plated 18 g wire for homemade clasp.

    From another Gemini–
I like it a lot! The beads you chose are beautiful together, and you spaced them so there is plenty of room for each one to shine and be admired. Your hand made clasp adds to the artisan crafted look.

To quote Lawrence Welk, “Wunnerful, wunnerful!” I agree that the spacing is perfect for each stone to shine on its own.

I am all for asymmetrical designs…as a matter of fact…I don’t think I could make a totally symmetrical piece of jewelry. There is a balance you must achieve in the weight and measurements of the beads you chose. I love Rainbow Fluorite and your lavender palette is very appealing.

Agree that good asymmetric designing can be tricky to achieve. Much of it is in the eye of the beholder. I say please yourself! I love the soft color palette in this necklace and stones/pearls are lux.

Soft & pretty colors. The pearls are a beautiful addition. Asymmetry designs are always fun to do, but often challenging. I’ve struggled with the weight/balance issues Jane mentioned, and even got a small scale to help out when my pieces don’t want to stay the way I’ve envisioned. I call those my ‘migrating’ pieces. Don’t concern yourself too much with your family’s mixed reviews, just create what your heart guides you to make, and you will always enjoy them.

Kelly…I didn’t mean….not in the least…to say your design wasn’t a good example of asymmetry. It is! I think it’s totally up to the designer. If you get that “click” in your brain that this is good…that’s all that matters. Yours is a very delicate and feminine design…something I don’t think I do so well.

Perfect delicate spring necklace. The rice pearls are a nice touch. Three cheers for asymmetry!

Jane, I didn’t take it that way at all!! I really appreciate all the feedback shared here. I started beading in January with a pair of earrings because I had a few nice beads I didn’t know what to do with, and now I’m completely in love with it. And I am struggling with the balance a bit, both design wise and weight. I wore this one around today and it migrated all over my neck like CC mentioned! LOL. Might have to add something toward the top of the light side. ;-)

Kelley – from one Gemini to another…I think your necklace is beautiful! Your are creations are fantastic! I posted a necklace with pearls and seed beads. Fortunately, I knew there was going to be a weight problem before I finished it. I made the corrections I needed to finish it.

Gemini influence or not it is an lovely asymmetrical design and if you are pleased with it that’s all that counts. Asymmetry can be difficult and challenging but I love to play with it, too. Welcome to the asymmetrical world!
