More about Tibetan (Dzi) Agate
Few beads have the enduring history of Tibetan Dzi Agate. Our beads are meant to resemble Dzi stones that were first created between 2000 and 1000 B.C. in the Indus Valley. Histories state that ancient Tibetan soldiers brought thousands of stones home from a raid, igniting a love for the style that has lasted thousands of years in Tibet, and now all over the world! Modern Tibetans still pass down ancient Dzi beads from generation to generation. Ancient stones have been used as protective amulets and in traditional medicines.
No One knows how Ancient Dzi beads were created, since no records about the creation of Dzi beads exist. It is likely that the creation process depended on oral teachings. Dzi Agate beads on the market now are considered “mock Dzi”. Today, Tibetan (Dzi) Agate beads are created using methods such as sanding, laser etching, and color enhancement. The patterns, textures, and colors of our Tibetan Dzi Agate beads are permanent. The base stone, agate, is a variety of chalcedony quartz.
Metaphysically, Tibetan Dzi agates are said to be stones of protection. Different pattern types of Dzi beads can have distinct spiritual meanings.
