Millefiori is a glassmaking technique where rods of glass (called canes) with different colors are fused, stretched, and sliced to create small cross-sections that look like little flowers, stars, or geometric shapes. The name "millefiori" is Italian and means "a thousand flowers"—a fitting description for the intricate, often floral, designs this technique produces. Even though the term is Italian, the technique actually dates back to ancient Roman, Egyptian, and even Phoenician glasswork — but it was lost for centuries and later revived during the Renaissance.
