Picture Jaspers form from mineral deposits usually in banded patterns. Naturally, this stone occurs in rich, earthy hues of golden brown, light amber, and rusty red. Jasper was often the stone of choice among Ancient Minoan, Egyptian, and Sasanian (Persian) Empires. The name Jasper comes from old French, jaspre, meaning “speckled stone”. Most Picture Jasper is mined in Oregon, but other varieties are found in Indonesia and Wales.
