More about Brazil Amazonite

Of the many Amazonite gemstone bead varieties we carry, Brazil Amazonite beads strike us as the most cheerful. Maybe it’s all of that warm weather in Brazil, maybe it’s the vibrant aqua color, but whatever it is, these beauties are sure to stun. Often bright aqua, these semi-opaque, blue-green Brazil Amazonite stones also have softer whiteish inclusions and darker spots that add natural variety to each gemstone strand. Though these stones were mined in Brazil, they are not truly of the Amazon. Amazonite, also known as Amazon stone, is a classic case of mistaken identity. A greenish color stone was worn by Indigenous Peoples in the Amazon area of South America, and European colonists believed these adornments were made from a stone already familiar to them (likely Amazonite mined from Russia). The name Amazonite took off even though no Amazonite has been found in the Amazon, and the Indigenous Peoples were likely utilizing jade.

Brazil Amazonite is a type of microcline feldspar. Mined in Brazil, other varieties are found in Colorado, Virginia, Russia, China, and other locales around the world. Amazonite has a long history of utilization in jewelry and carving, including examples from Ancient Egypt.

Amazonite is said to benefit the heart and throat chakras, and help filter out stress and negative pollutions.
