More about Tiger Iron
Our tiger iron gemstone beads were mined from a banded iron formation. They are composed of layers of silvery hematite interlaced with layers of dark jasper and shimmering golden yellow tiger eye. The silvery hematite strips in these tiger iron beads bring a shiny beautiful look to this earthy stone... It really is a wonderful combination and a versatile stone.
Tiger iron is a banded mineral that consists of alternating layers of tiger eye, jasper, and hematite. Banded iron formations are a distinctive type of rock often found in sedimentary rocks that are billions of years old. These formations consist of thin layers of iron oxides, such as hematite, alternating with bands of jasper. Each layer of material is relatively thin, varying in thickness from a millimeter or so up to several centimeters.
