Brush Strokes Earrings

Project details:

in favorites

These earrings are part of a series of earrings I have put together called "Non-Identical Twins". In this series, I explore how to make earrings match or go together without having to be identical. The goal with this pair was to show that really simple can pack a great punch of color and visual interest. Each earring represents the way I feel it would look if a single brush stroke could paint (1) the twilight sky as the sun sets on the ocean and (2) the reflection of the sun setting on the ocean with the twilight sky above.

Supplies you’ll need:

  • 36 total Czech Glass Faceted Rondelle 4x5mm - Summer Squash, Lilac, Turquoise Picasso
  • 2 3" headpins
  • 2 simple ear wires

Helpful Hints:

Step 1

The first earring I began with was with the "sky" (lilac) at the base. It is important when blending the colors from one theme (layer) to the next that you don't do so bluntly, but rather taper the color off along the headpin as you would in a brushstroke.

Step 2

With the second earring, I wanted to turn the idea upside down, so I paired up the colors to exchange places. For example, I had summer squash take the place of lilac. This gave the earrings balance.
