Pearled Nature Drops
by Ali on 04/01/21
About this design:
Mother of Pearl is one of my favorites to make jewelry with, especially when I am able to find a great carved piece. The shimmer of the shell really exemplifies the carvings, making them pop. I've had these Chrysoprase drops on my desk for a couple months now and the carved shell pieces called to them. It was decided, I had to make earrings with them. I realize that they are longer than one might typically make, but they are pretty light weight still and oh so softly dramatic :) To combine the 2 pieces took a bit of creative finagling a wire wrapped bead link. I chose to use kyanite 3mm for this link because I like the soft watery transparent hue, but the apatite faceted round 3.5mm or the kyanite faceted round 3.5mm, would also prove to be very nice. This same style of design could be replicated with a myriad of other MOP and drop combinations.
What you’ll need: (buy products below)
- 2 carved Mother of Pearl drops
- 2 Chrysoprase teardrops
- 2 3-3.5mm faceted round beads (kyanite or apatite)
- 2 ear wires
- 4 3" lengths of wire to match ear wires
- round nose pliers
- chain nose pliers
- wire cutters
Step-by-Step Instructions:

Step 1: To make these earrings you will need to connect the MOP and the Chrysoprase with a wire wrapped bead link. Simply create a large elongated loop for your MOP piece, then string on your small faceted round and finish with a slightly smaller elongated loop for the Chrysoprase teardrop. |

Step 2: Complete the earrings by making a wire wrapped bail on the MOP. This is how you will connect it to the earwire. Make sure your loop is turned adjacent to you MOP. |

Crystal Canary says:Ali, love the petite link connecting the two elements. The beautiful color of the Chrysoprase really pops with the white carved MOP components. Attention grabbers no doubt!
