Let it Snow Earrings

About this design:

I started this design with the intent of making flowers and then I thought "a few tweaks and these would be snowflakes!"

I made two pairs. For the second, I used blue where the white SuperDuos were and vice-versa.

There are endless possibilities for color combinations with this easy and fun design!

In the step-by-step instructions the two colors of SuperDuos used are referred to as "SuperDuo 1" and "SuperDuo 2."

What you’ll need: (buy products below)

  • 3 yards of Wildfire 0.006" thread
  • 24 SuperDuo color 1 beads
  • 24 SuperDuo color 2 beads
  • 20 size 11/0 seed beads
  • 14 size 8/0 seed beads
  • 2 Jumprings
  • 2 Earwires

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Step 1:
Cut about 3 yards of thread. String onto your thread an 11/0, SuperDuo 1, 11/0, SuperDuo 1, 11/0, SuperDuo 1, 11/0, SuperDuo 1, 11/0, SuperDuo, 11/0, SuperDuo 1

Leave a 3" tail
Step 2:
Pass your needle through the first 11/0 added in Step 1. Then pass through all the beads added in Step 1 to from a circle. Pass through the circle a second time to secure.
Step 3:
Exit your needle through the bottom hole of a SuperDuo 1.
(in this image my tail is on the top, the working strand is on the bottom)
Step 4:
Reverse the flow of your stitch by entering through the top hole of the SuperDuo 1 you exited.
Step 5:
Pick up two SuperDuo 2's and string through the top hole of the next SuperDuo 1. Repeat until you are all the way around the design. Follow the same path again with just thread to secure this row of newly added beads. Exit through the bottom hole of a SuperDuo 2.

(in this image my tail is on the bottom, the working strand is on the top)
Step 6:
Reverse the flow of your stitch by entering through the top hole of the SuperDuo 2 you exited.
Step 7:
Pick up one 8/0 and pass through the top hole of the next SuperDuo 2.
Step 8:
Pick up one SuperDuo 1 and pass through the top hole of the next SuperDuo 2.

Repeat steps 7 & 8 until you are all the way around your design.
Step 9:
Exit through the last 8/0 added.
Step 10:
Pick up two 11/0's an 8/0 and another two 11/0's. Go through the opposite side of the 8/0 you exited to create a loop. Pass through this loop a second time to secure. Pass through the entire outside row of the design to secure your design and hide your working thread.
  Step 11:
Clip your thread tails and attach to the earwire of your choice using a jumpring.
  Step 12:
Repeat steps 1-11 to create a matching pair.

Alex, these are wonderful! I like your step-by-step visuals of the process. I found circular designs a bit harder to stitch, but I might give it another go after seeing these lovelies. Many possibilities. They might even look great attached together as a necklace. Beautiful earrings!

I’m new to bead weaving, so perhaps this was not the best project to begin! However, the earrings are gorgeous. AND I don’t know how to knot/finish off the thread ends. Can someone help me? (I’ve scoured the web and can’t find any tutorials that are helpful. I did purchase a thread zapper.

These are super cute, and whip up fast.

A couple of comments – I used about 3 FEET of thread, not 3 yards, to make one earring.

I added 15/0s in the last row to help stabablize the superduo. So instead of just added the superduo I did 15/0, superduo, 15/0. That really seemed to help keep the tension, and prevent the last row from curving in if you pulled too much tension.
