Flying Home 3-Wrap Bracelet
by Ali on 11/03/11
About this design:
I had this image in my head of birds flying home against a beautiful blue green sky. The multi aquamarine played in perfectly representing the sky while the Green Girl pewter pieces completed the part of the birds flying home. Placement of the “focal” beads in this wrap bracelet was especially important, so I was constantly taking this project off my clipboard and wrapping it around my wrist to see if it was time to place one of the focals.
What you’ll need: (buy products below)
- ½ tube of magatama seed beads
- 1 nest bead
- 1 bird bead
- 1 ceramic geode
- 5’ 1.5mm leather cord
- 24’ of thread
- 9 czech glass beads
- 29 6mm rounds
- 13 8mm rounds
- 6 8-12mm nuggets
- 1 button or toggle bar
- 1 beading needle
- chain nose pliers
Step-by-Step Instructions:
Step 1: I recommend wrapping a string around your wrist and then marking on that string where you want your focals to be places. Layout your beads along the string plaing your focals at the markings. |
Step 2: Once you have the beads laid out from light to dark, you can begin your ladder stitch. See Tip: Ladder Stitch How-To |
Step 3: I used seed beads at the beginning and end of the bracelet to give a gradual transition up the larger sized beads I stitched in. |
Step 4: The bracelet does flow nicely when you jump drastically in size, like a 6mm to a 12mm. I recommend briefly building up in size or down in size if you are dealing with the reverse situation. |
Step 5: I tied knots at my leather tail ends for a decorative touch and to keep the knots from slipping. |

Can’t wait to make something like this…thanks for the inspiration! i just made a few wrap bracelets in the spring, very primitive compared to this one. A friend of mine sent me some vintage buttons they dug up from the earth in Massachusetts. these are my first and only ones so far….

opalgem101 says:Love your designs! To me, half of the fun is picking out the buttons for the clasp.
On Nov 07, 2011 at 3:53 pm #
Ali says:@Batticat
If you use a non-leather cord, such as a fabric or the like, rather than looping around the cord, stitch through it with your needle. This should help with keeping the beads from sliding if the cord shrinks or alters its shape as time goes on.
