Dripping Nuggets Necklace
by Ali on 10/24/13
About this design:
Gemstone nuggets, leather, facets, artist beads, metal feather, WoolyWire, fringe… What a mess it was on my desk :-)
This necklace is not leaving my sight, I will wear it with jeans and a v-neck top, a dress, at the park, in the Fall, Winter, Spring, Summer. I guess the only time this style can't be worn is when I'm running.
What you’ll need: (buy products below)
- 18" 4mm leather cord
- 2 leather cord ends
- 2 oval jump rings
- 1 large jump ring for closure
- 1 classic s-hook
- 7 20" lengths of 7-ply Irish waxed linen
- adhesive
- 10 nuggets
- 1 enamel bead
- 1 Gaea ceramic pendant
- 2 faceted metal nuggets/barrels
- 2 faceted metal teardrops
- 8 14mm faceted round beads
- 12 8mm round beads
- handful of a couple different types of seed beads
- feather pendant
- 2 4" lengths of Wooly Wire
- 20-22" of Wooly Wire
Step-by-Step Instructions:
![]() |
Step 1: Begin by gathering your supplies and laying out each fringe strand. |
![]() |
Step 2: Clip or secure your 4mm leather cord with it centered on your board. |
![]() |
Step 3: Trim 7 20" lengths of Irish waxed linen. |
![]() |
Step 4: To attach the waxed linen, double it over and make a lark's head knot around the leather cord at the center point. See Tip: Tying a Lark's Head Knot |
![]() |
Step 5: String your beads onto the Irish waxed linen. To string the gemstone beads, string one of the strands of waxed linen through the bead and pull the other strand around the bead. Then secure using an overhand knot. Continue attaching waxed linen and stringing beads until all 7 strands are complete. |
![]() |
Step 6: Add detail to the different fringe strands using 6/0 and 8/0 seed beads. |
![]() |
Step 7: Adjust the placement of the fringe strands. It helps to keep everything clipped to the board until you are ready to finish the ends. |
![]() |
Step 8: Finish off the ends of the leather cord using a fold over crimp cord end. Make sure to apply adhesive to the ends of the leather, then slide the cord end onto the leather. Squeeze the cord end together to secure. |
![]() |
Step 9: Attach your closure to the cord ends using oval jump rings. |
![]() |
Step 10: Wrap Wooly Wire in-between the tops of the fringe strands along the leather cord and adding in additional bits past the fringe along the leather to accent. |

Millertme954 says:Forget the question. Since it’s wire it will be secured after wrapping. DUH, lol

Stingray says:DenieB,
If you type “turquoise nuggets” into the site’s search bar they come up. The large-hole 10mm×8mm are item#:33301. You can also search ‘gemstones’ under the ‘beads’ category. Hope this helps.

swerdybird says:I get much inspiration & enticing ideas from looking at people’s work on this site & very grateful for the genuinely useful tutorials. However I guess im pretty discriminating about which pieces I really love & would want to wear myself. It’s not snobbery – many pieces are beautifully crafted & admired for that reason – but I wouldn’t want to wear them – just not my style. But every now & then there are ones that really stop me in my tracks, bowl me over & raise the old heart rate ! This piece is one of those !! May even be my favorite one. Not surprised you wear it all the time. When I’m feeling less rusty ( several years since I last made anything) I may need to attempt my own version of this one. It manages to be simple(unfussy) & rich at the same time, organic & textured, Informal but elegant too. Wow! That’s really quite a feat.
