Christmas Light Squint Necklace
by Ali on 11/27/13
About this design:
Have you ever walked into a store that was heavily decorated for Christmas and there is so much to look at that you have to squint? Well if you know what I'm talking about, that is how this necklace came to be … colors & textures. That chrome diopside sure does pop against all the Czech glass! When I was little, I wore glasses and at Christmas I would take off my glasses as my mom would decorate the tree with lights and ornaments. The sparkling was so exaggerated. That's the feeling I was going for - saturated and sparkling.
NOTE: If you feel like your charms are getting heavy, don't hesitate in using a heavier chain, this will ensure that your piece stands the test of time.
What you’ll need: (buy products below)
- 183 wire wrapped charms
- 18" of chain
- 1 jump ring for clasp
- 18 jump rings for making charm clusters
Step-by-Step Instructions:

Step 1: Make 183 charms: 48 chrome diopside round 5-6mm (or any other round bead) 20 Czech glass transparent merlot cruller 6x9mm 11 Czech glass raspberry marshmallow fire polished rondelle 6x9mm 4 Czech glass aquamarine w/ssilver fore polished rondelle 6x9mm 12 Czech glass strawberries & cream round druk 4mm (2beads/head pin) 8 Czech glass cobalt picasso UFO 7x9mm 8 Czech glass smoky topaz picasso round drum (3beads/head pin) If you want to use other Czech Glass that's great too, just keep the same pre portions. See Tip: Wire Wrap a Charm |

Step 2: Attach the lobster clasp to the end of the chain using a jump ring. See Tip: Closing A Jump Ring |

Step 3: Create your clusters of charms on each jump ring. The clusters should contain 5-7 charms each. Attach each cluster as you go, starting at the middle of the necklace chain. The center of the necklace should be denser than the center. Again, if you feel that your charms are heavy, use a heavier chain. See Tip: Closing A Jump Ring |

Step 4: In the end, you should have attach 18 clusters. |

Giannas says:I think 183 clusters is a typo: the directions say to attach 18 charms; and there aren’t
enough beads for 183 charms. It makes the necklace much more approachable, which is good, because is is a beautiful Christmas necklace, so sparkly even in photos.
