Shipwreck Necklaces
by Ali on 08/30/18
About this design:
I have a problem deciding which pieces to use. This necklace combination is another example of that. I love how it reminds me of a handful of lost sea objects. The mix of blues and natural tones adds to this vibe. These 2 necklaces can be made to wear together or separate.
Buy the supplies:
The products in this design are listed below.
Step-by-Step Instructions:
Step 1: Tassel Necklace - string together your collection of shell treasures and tie to the tassel. Knot your 12 ply waxed linen to the African trade beads necklace (I recommend you restring these beads). Then creatively string the African tumbled donuts in a stack and knot to the tassel loop. |
Step 2: Kyanite & Donut Necklace - attach the tumbled donut to the 12 ply cord using a lark's head knot. Then string on a series of kyanite nuggets/pebbles, adding a tiny Nassa shell every so often. I did this for 6"" on each side. Then for a little something more, I knotted the cord every 6-10mm and finished with a fish hook/eye clasp. |

EPBCornell says:Wow, Ali! I love the 2 of these together! It’s like all of the fun of beachcombing wrapped up in jewelry to take with you and wear everywhere. Also nice to see the cobalt white heart beads used in context — the e-store shots can’t do them justice. They sizzle blue! Perfectly titled pieces, too, for your fine, fun flotsam of treasures come ashore. Thanks for sharing your designs with the supplies & instructions. You’re the best!

Kathryn R says:Oh wow. Just wow. Ali, you rock- I’m such a fan. That does it. Gotta buy some Waxed Irish linen thread! Also, even though summer is coming to an end, it won’t be long before winter will make folks long for beach resorts, right? These necklaces will be popular with the Snowbird crowd!

Moogie says:The cobalt is an all time favorite for me. It’s so vivid. And kyanite is just gorgeous! I have a problem trying to pare down all the beads & other items I try to put into one piece of jewelry. Then I have so much to put away!
