Sanibel Island Anklet
by Elaina W on 02/27/20
About this design:
For this design, I did a simple square knot with hemp and knotted in the cowrie shells as I went. I made this as an anklet, but I also think it would look great worn as a choker. I love how bright and fun the colorful cowrie shells are- perfect for summer!
What you’ll need: (buy products below)
- Hemp
- Cowrie Shells
- Wire
- Tassels
- Jump Rings
Step-by-Step Instructions:

Step 1: Choose five cowrie shells in different colors and make them into links. Take a 2" piece of wire and slide it through the top of the shell- so you'll have two pieces of wire with the shell hanging in the middle. Twist the two halves of the wire together and use the round nose pliers to make a loop- trim off the excess wire. repeat on the other side of the shell. See Tip: Make a Wire Wrapped Bead Link |

Step 2: Do the square knot for about 1/2 inch, and then slide the top and bottom wire loops on the shell onto the middle two strands. See Tip: Using the Square Knot |

Step 3: Continue doing the square knot and adding the shells. Once you've finished, slide 3 tassels onto a jump ring and attach between each shell. |
