Dream Weaver Necklace

About this design:

This week, I knew I wanted to use these new Czech glass daggers in a design, but I was struggling to come up with an interesting way to use them. I finally came up with the idea of making bead links with some gemstones & attaching them together to create a focal piece. I also knew I wanted to use something other than chain, so I attached silk string & suede cord together for something a little different.

What you’ll need: (buy products below)

  • Silk String
  • Microsuede Flat Cord
  • African Brass Rice
  • Czech Glass Daggers
  • Gold Headpins
  • Gold Crimp Cord End
  • Gold Lobster Clasps
  • Gold Chain
  • Gold 3mm Jump Rings
  • Gold 24 or 26 Gauge Wire
  • Amazonite Faceted 4mm Rounds
  • Gold Large Hole Nuggets
  • Peach Rice Pearls
  • White Howlite Square Tubes
  • 11/0 Seed Beads
  • Super Glue

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Step 1:
Begin by making a bead link with the daggers & the amazonite.
Step 2:
Make another bead link (attached directly to the link from step 1) with the daggers & seed beads. I used 13 blue daggers each separated with a seed bead.
Step 3:
Attach the end of the link from step 2 to the link from step 1, so the gold daggers overlap the blue.
Step 4:
Make 3 more bead links- 1 with three white howlite square tubes & 2 with nine peach rice pearls.
Step 5:
Attach a piece of wire to the bottom link & slide on the three links from step 4. Make a loop at the end & attach a jump ring.
Step 6:
Repeat step 5 on the other side.
Step 7:
This is how the finished focal should look.
Step 8:
Make bead links with the pearls, amazonite, and large hole gold beads. Attach directly to one another, and attach the bottom to the jump ring on each side of the focal.
Step 9:
Attach the suede to the top bead link by sliding the suede through the loop at the top of the link & wrapping wire around it to secure.
Step 10:
Tie the silk string to the bottom of the suede with a double knot & a drop of glue. Knot the silk & slide on large hole gold beads. Repeat moving up the string. As you move up the string, tie a knot about half way up attaching the string to the suede. I attached the beads to the suede by sliding a bead onto the center of a piece of wire & wrapping the wire around the suede. Tie another double knot at the top to attach the string & suede together. Place a small drop of glue on the knot.
Step 11:
To finish, cut the tip of the suede at an angle so it fits into the cord end easily.
Step 12:
Place a drop of glue in the cord end, slide in the suede, and clamp down. Finish by attaching a lobster clasp & jump ring.
Step 13:
For the second necklace, make a bead link with the blue daggers & seed beads. Attach a piece of chain to each side of the link. Make bead charms using the rice pearls & headpins. Attach the charms directly to the chain, or with a jump ring. In between each charm I placed a seed bead onto a jump ring & attached the jump ring to the chain.

Elaina, you imagine and create the best focals! Love all the layers & finishes you chose to use in this one. The silk & leather treatment in the back is something I’ve been meaning to try–I really like how you added the beads onto it. Great work!
