Blue Lagoon Necklace
by Elaina W on 04/15/21
About this design:
For this design, I paired various sizes & shapes of turquoise with amazonite, seed beads, and silver accents to create this long, layered necklace. I love how the turquoise looks with the leather cord & the pops of pink from the African trade beads!
What you’ll need: (buy products below)
Leather cord, assorted gemstones & seed beads (see below for the ones I used), beading wire, 24 gauge silver wire, crimp tubes & covers, cord ends, lobster clasps, jump rings, super glue, silver tubes & charms (see below for the ones I used).
Step-by-Step Instructions:

Step 1: Begin with a 14.5-15" piece of leather cord. Slide the focal onto the center of the cord & tie a knot on each side to hold it in place. Finish by attaching cord ends & a lobster clasp to the ends of the cord. See Tip: Using a Leather Cord Crimp End |

Step 2: Make a loop at one end of a 5" piece of beading wire & secure with a crimp tube & cover. Slide on the turquoise chips (I used approx. 27 chips). Make a loop at the other end & secure with a crimp tube & cover. Repeat these steps for the next strand, except you'll be using a 6" piece of beading wire & 15/0 seed beads. Once you've reached the center, slide on 12 silver drops, each separated by 2 seed beads, and then continue sliding on seed beads until you've almost reached the end. Make a loop at the end of the wire & secure with a crimp tube & cover. Slide the loops at the ends of the strands onto the silver twisted jump rings. Tie a 10" piece of leather cord to each jump ring. Finish by attaching cord ends & a lobster clasp to the ends of the cord. |

Step 3: Begin with a piece of beading wire about 26" long. Make a loop at one end & secure with a crimp tube & cover. Slide on turquoise chips, rounds, seed beads, and silver tubes. To finish, make a loop at the end and secure with a crimp tube & cover. Attach a jump ring & lobster clasp to the loops. |

Step 4: Make the bead chain using turquoise nuggets, rounds, seed beads, and silver beads. I made mine to be 22" long. For extra length, I attached a 4" piece of leather cord to each end using the crimp cord ends. The necklace is long enough to slide over your head, so you won't need to attach a clasp. For the center focal, make 5 bead charms with the turquoise rounds & headpins. Attach them to a 10mm silver twisted jump ring with 3mm jump rings. Slide the twisted jump ring through the figa fist focal. I placed a drop of glue on the back of the focal to keep the jump ring in place. Attach the focal to the center of the necklace. See Tip: Wire Wrap a Charm |
