This week, I was really looking forward to designing a necklace around these new wood resin focals- I love all of the shapes & colors they come in, so It was hard to decide which one to use! I ended up using the Koru focal (which is a symbol for new life, growth, strength, and peace). I paired it with Owyhee Blue Opal, Coconut, and Turquoise for a beach-inspired layered necklace.
Beading wire, cord ends, crimp tubes & covers, lobster clasps, jump rings, super glue, leather cord, cowrie shells, blue opal heishi beads, coconut shell heishi beads, turquoise large hole rondelles, wood resin Koru focal
Begin with a 23" piece of 2mm light brown vintage leather cord. Attach a jump ring to the Koru focal and slide to the center of the cord. Move about 1.5" up the cord from the focal & tie a knot. Slide on a turquoise large hole rondelle & tie another knot directly above it. To finish, attach glue-in cord ends to the ends of the leather. *Cut the cord a bit so the width is not as thick-this makes it easier to fit into the cord end*.
Begin with an 18.5" piece of 1.5mm leather cord. Slide on 4 turquoise large hole rondelles. Tie a double knot on each side of the rondelles to secure. To finish, attach glue-in cord ends to the ends of the leather.
I made this necklace to be choker length, so I used a 14.5" piece of beading wire. Make a loop at one end & secure with a crimp tube & cover. Slide on approx. 40 coconut beads, 55 blue opal beads, and 40 more coconut. Attach a jump ring to a cowrie shell & attach in the middle of the blue opal beads. Make a loop at the end & secure with a crimp tube & cover. Attach a jump ring & lobster clasp to the ends.
