Knotted Chakra Necklace

About this design:

To create this Mala-style necklace, I used gemstones representing the 7 Chakras: root (red jasper), sacral (tiger eye), solar plexus (yellow calcite), heart (green aventurine), throat (Sodalite), third eye (lapis), and crown (amethyst & rock crystal). In place of the guru bead found in a typical Mala necklace, I used a Czech Glass flower of life coin & a thread tassel. The finished necklace ends up being pretty long, so I suggest wearing it doubled up.

What you’ll need: (buy products below)

  • Chakra Mix 8mm Energy Tubes
  • Lava Rock 6mm Rounds
  • Rock Crystal 8mm Energy Tubes
  • Czech Glass Flower of Life Coin
  • Lotus Charm
  • Chinese Knotting Cord

  • Coconut Shell
  • Gold Stardust 6mm Rounds
  • Super Glue

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Step 1:
Cut a 10' piece of the Chinese knotting cord. Tie an overhand knot in the middle. String the beads on one side (with a knot in between each bead) in the following order: 6 crystal, 6 amethyst, 1 lava rock, 7 lapis, 1 lava rock, 7 sodalite, 1 lava rock, 7 green aventurine, 1 lava rock, 7 tiger eye, 1 lava rock, 7 yellow calcite, 1 lava rock, 7 red jasper. Repeat on the other side. Use a jump ring to attach the lotus charm anywhere you'd like.
Step 2:
To make the tassel focal, I slid the silver top off of a black thread tassel. Next, thread the string at the top of the tassel through a needle & slide on a 6mm gold round bead & a coconut rondelle.
Step 3:
Continue by sliding on a Czech Glass flower of life coin, and another coconut rondelle & gold round.
Step 4:
Tie a loop at the top & secure with a drop of glue. Tie the ends of the necklace through the loop.
Step 5:
To secure the tassel, tie a piece of black Chinese knotting cord around the top a few times. Tie a knot at the end & secure with a drop of glue.

So pretty! This would be great layered with a 4 mm of 6 mms chakra necklace.

I agree – so pretty. Love the use of the flower of life instead of the guru bead.

Oh – and I love the knots between the beads. I’ll have to check out how to do that.

Such a rainbow of color to enjoy! Love the feel of knotted necklaces. With the mixed bead strands, there are many colorful creations to make. Love the new Czech flower beads too–only wish they were a bit lower in price. Nice work Elaina!
