Crystal Crescent Necklace
by TierraCast on 03/30/23
About this design:
Sparkling crystal beads make a rainbow of color to frame our Crescent Moon & Star charm. Handmade wire head pins and messy wire wraps add the fun!
Designer: Tracy Proctor
Tip: This necklace design will hang nicely at shorter lengths, but cut your chain to whatever length you desire. Hang crystal colors however you choose, but for "rainbow" color placement attach them in the following order: red, orange, green, blue, violet.
Note: Non-TierraCast components in the part list are always suggestion only. Choose whatever small, beautiful beads you like for this design!
What you’ll need: (buy products below)
1 Crescent Moon & Star Charm 1 Cathedral Clasp Set 13 Oval Jump Ring 29ga 2x3mm ID 16" Brass 2x6mm Cable Chain 10 Bicone 8mm Crystal Beads, 2 each Siam, Topaz, Emerald, Sapphire, and Amethyst 24 Gauge Craft Wire, gold
Tools:
chain nose pliers (2) round nose pliers wire cutters
Skill Level: Beginner-Intermediate
Finished Size: Approx. 17"
Step-by-Step Instructions:
Step 1: Open 1 jump ring and attach clasp bar at one end of chain. Close jump ring. Repeat at other end to attach clasp ring. |
Step 2: Open 1 jump ring and attach to charm. Before closing attach to center link of chain. Close jump ring. |
Step 3: Cut one 6" piece of craft wire. To make a knot style head pin, use round nose pliers to make a small coil (2-3 rounds) of wire at one end, then thread the uncoiled end through the coil and pull wire through. |
Step 4: String 1 crystal bead onto head pin. Bend wire at right angle above bead, leaving about 1/8" of space between bead and bend. Use round nose pliers to form a small loop, wrapping wire around top of bead generously. Use all wire or trim as desired. Use tip of chain nose pliers to tuck wire end in. |
Step 5: Repeat Steps 3-4 for remaining crystal beads. |
Step 6: Lay chain out on work surface in a round, or necklace, shape to determine placement of crystal dangles. Position the first three on either side of the charm about 3/4" apart. Optional: for the last two on either side add a small bit more distance between them as they will appear to hang closer together when the necklace is worn. Use jump rings to attach each dangle. |
