Cowrie & Coconut Necklace

About this design:

I love the asymmetrical style of this design. Cowrie shells combined with coconut makes this the ultimate beach necklace. This design can be easily translated to fit your style.

What you’ll need: (buy products below)

You will need cowrie shells, Luhuanus shell slice, coconut beads, 4mm & 6mm Czech glass druks, hemp or waxed cord. I prefer the aesthetic of hemp cord.

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Step 1:
I cut about 3' of cord, I always leave myself extra especially when I will be finishing with a sliding square knot. I did not use the hole on the shell slice, I looped the cord through the middle opening and pulled the tails through as shown. Create a knot at the top, this secures the cord to the center of the shell.
Step 2:
Pull the cord over and back down a cowrie shell. The take the cord over the shell and back down. Don't pull tight yet, slide the cord through the loop to secure the shell between the cord.
Step 3:
Slide on the Czech glass 4mm druk. Start this step 2 over again. until you have your desired length of cowrie shells. I left around 4" of cord at the end.
Step 4:
Start sliding on the coconut beads and Czech glass 6mm druks on the other side of the necklace in the order shown.
Step 5:
Finish the necklace with a sliding square knot using and extra 6-7" piece of cord.
