Add layers of whimsical colors to your summer accessory stash with these lightweight necklaces. I used a bunch of random seed beads I had lying around.

Supplies you’ll need:

  • 8/0 seed beads
  • 11/0 seed beads
  • beading wire up to a 0.5mm cord
  • hook clasp
  • soldered jump rings
  • pectin shell focal
  • Czech glass fish
  • .35 Linhasita waxed cord

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Step 1

The necklaces are 18-20" in length. Measure out 26 inches of cord. String the beads on alternating between 8/0 and 11/0 seed beads in your favorite colors.

Step

Step 2

This image is from another design but uses the same technique. To finish the necklace, bring the cord up through a crimp tube over a soldered jump ring and back down the crimp tube and through a few beads. Pull tight. Use crimping pliers to crimp the tube. Place the cover over the crimped tube and close with pliers. Do the same steps on the opposite side.

See Tip: Crimping Basics

Step 3

Open the hook loop with strong pliers. Slide the jump ring onto the hook and close the hook loop.

Step

Step 4

To create a loop for the blue and gold sunfish, follow the images. Image 1: Cut 7" of cord. Feed the cord through the needle eye. Slide on 5 yellow seed beads, 3 turquoise, then 4 yellow seed beads. Image 2: Take the need off the seed bead thread and slide the eye onto the opposite thread. Image 3: Bring the needle down through all of the seed beads and down through the fish hole. At the bottom of the hole, slide on a turquoise seed bead. Bring the thread around the outside of the seed bead and back up the fish. Image 4: The needle should come out of the top fish hole, not back through the seed beads. Take both cord ends and tie two overhand knots. Image 5: Thread one of the cords back through the needle eye, bring it up through a couple of beads, and bring the cord around and through itself to create a knot. Pull tight. Image 6: Trim off all cord ends with scissors.

Step

Step 5

Cut a 6" piece of waxed cord. Slide a sunfish bead onto the cord. Slide 13 11/0 seed beads onto the cord. Bring the cord end at the top down through the fish bead to meet the other end. Tie a knot and trim the cord.
