This necklace set is full of rustic charm with an earthy rainbow fringe as a centerpiece. An African brass elbow noodle and Java glass striped gooseberry beads create this whimsical fringe.

Supplies you’ll need:

  • Java glass gooseberry beads
  • African brass elbow noodle (tube)
  • thread
  • Size 12 needle
  • 11/0 seed beads
  • super glue
  • turquoise opal crystal rice beads
  • African brass 4mm round strand
  • Waterproof 18K Gold PVD-plated stainless steel round 3mm, 1.2mm hole
  • elastic cord 0.8mm
  • gel-based glue for elastic cord necklace, like hypo cement

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Step

Step 1

All the African brass tubes are a little different. Count the openings on the noodle first so you can adjust the fringe design if needed.

Cut 6' of thread. Feed the thread onto the needle. Go through the first opening of the tube. Tie a few knots in the thread and hide the knot inside the tube. Make sure the working thread comes out of the front hole of the tube.

Step

Step 2

  • Image 1: Take the needle around the bottom of the tube again.
  • Image 2: Slide the beads on as shown, bring the needle past the last seed bead and up through the rest of the beads.
  • Image 3: Bring the needle through the tube hole
  • Image 4: Bring the thread around the base of the tube and through the next front hole. Go around again.
  • Image 5: Slide the needle under the thread on the tube and pull until it forms a loop. (Image 9 is a better image of this). Put the needle through the loop to create a knot. Pull tight.
  • Image 6: Slide on the next set of beads.
  • Image 7: Go around the next set of holes
  • Image 8: Bring the thread around the bottom of the tube. Pull the thread until it creates a small loop.
  • Image 9: Bring the needle through the loop and pull tight to create a knot.

Step

Step 3

Continue adding more fringe using the same techniques as in Step 2.

Step

Step 4

Bring the needle through the thread on the back, and pull the cord until a loop forms. Slide the needle through the loop and pull tight to create a knot. Do this two or three times. Trim the thread. You can add a dot of super glue for extra security.

Step 5

Cut the leather cord to your desired length.

  • Image 1: Use a cutter to trim the end at a slight angle.
  • Image 2: Attach the hook and eye with super glue.

Step

Step 6

For the elastic necklace: Wrap the elastic cord around your neck 2-3 times, depending on how long you want the necklace to be. Slide the beads on in the order shown. Tie a surgeon's knot to finish. Add a dot of hypocement to secure the knot.
