Rudraksha Style Mala

Rudraksha (Shiva's Teardrops) are traditionally used alone with 108 beads knotted on a black or red cord with 1 extra used as the guru - total 109 beads. I tend to lean more non-traditional when I make jewelry so, I have blended the Rudraksha with matte Tibetan style agate, an African turquoise guru bead and a hand-dyed silk ribbon tassel.

The products used in this project are listed below.

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Step 1

Cut 3.5 meters of cord, placing an overhand knot in the middle. Begin stringing on your beads on one side. Knot in between each bead.
TIP - If you pull your next bead against the knot, it will secure the knot in place.
27 Matte Tibetan Style Agate, 20 Rudraksha, 3 Matte Tibetan Style Agate, 4 Rudraksha = 54 beads

Step 2

Repeat the pattern from Step 1 on the other side = 108 beads

Step 4

Make a tassel using hand-dyed silk ribbon and attach to the necklace using the tails of waxed linen remaining after you have strung the guru bead.
