Leather & Brass Necklace
by Andrea at Lima on 01/26/23
About this design:
The leather cord makes the brass beads really pop, plus the patina washer creates a cool boho vibe. The strand of brass round beads is perfect for creating a layered look with soft shine and earthy texture. You could break up the strand to make two layers or just leave it as is for one long one.
What you’ll need: (buy products below)
You will need and 1 African brass saucer, 1 polished brass round strand, and a faceted bicone bead. You will also need a patina washer and 3ft of natural black leather cord. I always get a little more cord than I need, just in case:) You will also need crimp cord ends, a jump ring, and clasp.
Step-by-Step Instructions:

Step 1: Cut a 2.5' piece of cord, fold it in half and slide it through the washer. |
![]() |
Step 2: Take both tails of cord and bring them over the washer and through the cord loop. Pull the cord tails to tighten. Slide on the brass saucer bead. |
![]() |
Step 3: Create 2 square knots with the cord tails. See the tip below for square knot instructions. See Tip: Using the Square Knot |

Step 4: Slide on the faceted brass bicone bead. |
![]() |
Step 5: you can leave it as is or you can fold over one side of the cord. and wrap it twice around itself. |

Step 6: Wrap the cord around itself twice and back up through the loops. Do the same on the other side. |

Step 7: Attach your cord ends, jump ring, and clasp. |

Crystal Canary says:Its great the way you made the focal for this one–I love the barrel knots above the small bicone on top. I look forward to working with the new African beads. I’d love you see your ideas for a necklace design with that Jumbo 40mm round. Looks like your on a roll.
