Tying the Sliding Square Knot

in favorites

The sliding square knot is a great way to finish off your cord or twine bracelets. If you're already familiar with a square knot, this video will show you everything you need to tie a sliding square knot.

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Step

Step 1

Clamp down your bracelet so that you can work with the two loose ends.

Step

Step 2

Line up the two ends and point them in opposite directions, like you see here.

Step

Step 3

Tie the new cord around your ends with an overhand knot. From there, we'll start with the square knots.

At this point, it's easier to turn your bracelet 90 degrees leaving your knot at the top.

Step

Step 4

Tie square knot after square knot until it's about an inch long.

Step

Step 5

Take your two working strands and tie an overhand knot to finish it off.

Step

Step 6

Trim the excess cord and put a dab of epoxy on the end of the knot.
